who we are

We have a simple approach. We make a commitment to deliver an enjoyable experience so that our clients will want to build with us again, and again. We take pride in dispelling the notion that construction has to be frustrating and riddled with inferior quality, unaligned expectations, and poor communication. Instead, we invest our time in building relationships, which in turn leads to greater value, higher quality and a better process.

It’s our responsibility to fully understand each project and it’s unique challenges and opportunities. We ask a lot of questions early on, and provide creative solutions that balance value and aesthetics. Honesty and transparency are the keys to our success.

We are not your typical construction company — we are enthusiastic and committed to delivering on our promise. Our experience within all phases of the construction process as well as our practical knowledge and appreciation for a wide variety of design styles enables us to deliver remarkable results. Decades of combined experience coupled with our quest for continual improvement and a commitment to personal and technological development put us on the cutting edge of our industry.

At our lead is Antony Cullwick, who is passionate about elevating the building experience by way of critical knowledge and skillsets, genuine work ethics and deliberate processes. Our Project Managers Scott Billeisen, Mike Chmura and Adam Sahnow, all exemplify an innate array of interpersonal skills in addition to excelling at organization, attention to detail and complex problem solving on fast track schedules. Jan Morton, our multi-talented Business Manager, brings it all together.

Ants Cullwick

During years of managing projects for general contractors in the mountains of Colorado, Ants began to feel strongly that there was a better way to deliver results for his clients. In 2005 he established Koru to pursue his goal of redefining the building experience for clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors while delivering unparalleled construction quality. Integrated project delivery with clear communication and an absolute focus on project goals would define the ‘Koru Way’.  Through this approach, Ants and Koru have built a reputation for excellence amongst clients and building professionals in the Roaring Fork Valley.

From an early age, undertaking large challenges and the pursuit of excellence have characterized Ants’ life. A native of New Zealand, he has represented his country in soccer, water polo and freestyle kayaking; earned scholarships in NCAA Division 1 swimming and water polo, and competed in adventure races in New Zealand and the U.S. He has also travelled extensively in New Zealand, Australia, Europe, and North, Central and South America. Today this interest continues as Ants and his wife Aimee explore adventures with their daughters Maia and Daisy, and their first “child” Timber.

Jan Morton

Business Manager

Jan is integral to the successful delivery of all of Koru’s projects. She is the consummate professional working behind the scenes to ensure that your project finances are accurately tracked and reported. Experiences gained running her own design company and working as an accountant in college athletics means that Jan provides unparalleled financial reporting on all of our projects, while at the same time guaranteeing that she takes home most of the money from our annual basketball pool.

On those days when she is not in the office ensuring the smooth operation of our projects Jan is likely to be found rafting or snowboarding with her husband Josh, or hiking with her dogs Bo and Greta.

Mike Chmura

Project Manager

Mike’s diverse experiences have prepared him with a unique set of skills and a broad understanding of all aspects of construction. His ability to communicate with clients, subcontractors and suppliers is enviable. Mike’s passion for his clients and his unwavering focus on outstanding delivery, ensure phenomenal results.

Many years spent guiding fly fishing honed Mike’s people skills while also providing him time in the off season to work in construction.  His pursuit of the perfect day fishing led him to Argentina, Chile and Mexico where amongst other things he became fluent in Spanish, and gained a deep understanding for other cultures.

Early mornings, evenings and weekends, you are likely to find Mike fishing the river and lakes of the valley, snowboarding, cross country skiing or deep in the back country.

Adam Sahnow

Project Manager

Raised around his family’s general contracting company in Spokane Washington, there are few areas within the scope of a construction project that Adam is not intimately familiar with. Adam has completed projects in Aspen, Pitkin County and Telluride and knows what is required to deliver complex projects in the Colorado mountain environment. There are few people who pursue their work and life with the passion and intensity that Adam does on a daily basis. His exacting standards and focus on the lifetime performance of the homes that he builds, guarantees that Koru homes will perform at the highest level.

After years of guiding fishing and hunting in Idaho, Montana and here in the Roaring Fork Valley, Adam is as passionate as ever about spending time on the river or high in the mountains surrounding the valley with his wife Tara and Otis (the dog).
